SHIP REPAIR
SEMIM, main contractor for the refitting of two customs patrol boats in Saint Martin

The DF31 in Pointe à Pitre - St Martin

semim@semim.fr

SEMIM (industrial and marine mechanical maintenance company) has been carrying out an important contract for engine replacement and modernisation of customs patrol boats. After four vessels worked on in Concarneau from January 2010 onwards, SEMIM has just finished work on the two customs patrol boats from Fort de France and Pointe à Pitre in Saint Martin.

Most of the work concerned the mechanical elements and hull: replacement of the propulsion system, replacement of propellers and shaft lines, installation of a central air conditioning unit, extension and raising of the keel as well as modification of the shaft line struts.

To satisfy these contracts, SEMIM has enlisted the aid of IPC's partners such as:

- COPREMA for the creation of the technical file,

- LE GALL for electricity and electronics,

- SAEN PEINTURE for hull coating,

- ATLANTISO for heat insulation of the exhaust tubing.

That was a large contract for the company, which represented more than 20 months of work, and enabled SEMIM to act as main contractor for the first time.

PIRIOU Shipyard, the shipbuilding branch of PIRIOU in Concarneau (France), delivered the “SI EL HAOUES”. Third in a series of four harbour tugs, the vessel left Concarneau last week for the port of Algiers.

32 metres in length, it has similar characteristics to the other three vessels. The ship can reach a speed of thirteen knots and has a bollard pull of 72 tonnes.

The service provided by PIRIOU Shipyard also includes training of the crews to run these vessels. On-site technical assistance is also ensured by a technician from the Shipyard.

The first two tugs were delivered last autumn. The last vessel, for the port of Arzew , will also be delivered in spring 2012.

Thanks to these additional services and the succession of repair and construction contracts, PIRIOU wishes to strengthen its position in the Algerian market and forge new partnerships with the port businesses.

A freight transport barge under construction

PIRIOU Shipyard has just signed a contract for the construction of a freight transport barge with the Transport Maritime des Dépendances company (TMDD). This is one of PIRIOU's established customers, because this vessel will be the fourth built for the Guadeloupe shipowner.

The LCT barge, with a length of 50 m, can reach a speed of 10 knots with a deadweight of 350 tonnes. The 300m² loading surface enables up to 300 tonnes of freight or twelve 40-foot containers to be carried. The ship has a landing door in the bows.

This barge is part of TMDD's fleet consolidation programme. To be delivered at the end of the year, it will be used to ensure the freight transport link between the Guadeloupe islands.

This contract has been won thanks to an offer that perfectly satisfies the ship's operating requirements.
